Midtown Beer Garden, previously referred to as The Fifth Street Food Carts is the country‘s first official food cart pod. Dating back to the late 1970s when enterprising immigrants rented a single parking space along 5th Avenue to sell food from their home countries. All of the Fifth Street Food Carts went out of business during The COVID-19 pandemic. With the help of the City of Portland, Chefstable, Expensify and Fracture Brewing the lot was revitalized in 2024. A large stage venue and 500 seats were added to the site. Midtown beer Garden now boasts 27 food carts, and a full bar. 85% of the food carts at Midtown Beer Garden are first generation immigrant owned. Our community comes together speaking, 14 languages.
