About

In April 2025, in anticipation of the real and potential impacts of public benefit reductions and ongoing hardships facing our LGBTQIA2S+ elders, Pride Northwest received a grant to launch Pride Elder Connections, a pilot project supporting LGBTQIA2S+ adults aged 55 and older in the Portland metro area. The initiative was created to help queer elders navigate the expected loss of benefits while fostering connection and engagement through practical, community-based support.

Pride Elder Connections is a community built by and for LGBTQIA2S+ adults aged 55+. We bring queer elders together to share care, connection, belonging and fostering resilience in the face of change. Through peer networks, volunteer engagement, and practical support, we are growing a space where queer elders are supported, valued and celebrated.

Focus Points:

  • Social Engagement: Reducing isolation by creating community gatherings for intergenerational connection opportunities

  • Resource Connection: Connecting Elders to vetted resources and tools to navigate socio-economic challenges and emergency events

  • Community Resilience: Creating networks of shared labor and resources to keep LGBTQ2SIA+ elders safe and healthy
